Cordel literature, or "string literature" is a kind of popular and cheap printed booklets containing novels, poems and songs lyrics, which are produced and sold in fairs and by sidestreet vendors in Northeastern Brazil. They are named this way because they are hung from strings in order to display them to potential clients.
